If a natal planet is located at 29 degrees of any type, also known as the Anaretic degree, then in that part of the personality reflected by the planet’s energies there may be some real issues with decision-making. When making a move one day, the native will analyse and reassess circumstances, and the next day, leap into the action without listening to himself or herself! For instance, if Mars is at 29 degrees, the native will devise several action plans, think excessively about the possible actions and different routes to take, and then execute a spontaneous action that is contrary to the decision! I know a woman whose Juno is at 29 degrees, and although she has a lot of theories about taking relationships seriously, she easily falls into them. A guy with 29 degrees of Mercury agonizes about his life’s choices and hesitates to speak too much and too little.
In addition to poor decision-making, vacillation and instinctively jumping into circumstances, the 29th degree is also correlated with a sense of urgency. It’s the last degree of the zodiac sign and there can be a certain sense of urgency about the specific sign’s characteristics and associations. In this region, too, there may be a general weakness–it may be a point of poor choice, difficulty, crisis, or overcompensation.
While it is thought that the classical critical degrees above give the planet or body added strength, the anaretic degree is more of a crippling position.Through progressions, as, for example, the Sun reaches the 29th degree, the year of the native can be based on the crisis. For example, if the Sun is going up to 29 degrees Libra, the sense of urgency and crisis will surround relationships. Divorcing or leaping quite blindly into a new partnership can be the product of that urgency. If the Sun rises to 29 degrees Virgo, there could be a big change in the job. In general, decisions taken at the 29th degree can be precipitous.
Because the advanced Moon moves the planet’s fastest, we experience more anaretic Moon degrees than we do with other planets and luminaires. The secondary advanced Moon makes a full loop of the map and the signs about every 28 years, so we consider 12 anaretic degrees of progressed Moon per 28-year cycle (about every 2-1/2 years). When I was counseling a parent of a child at university, I found that the advanced Moon of her daughter was transiting the ninth house at 29 degrees. Uranus also transited the ninth house of her friend and came to her Sun on a square. At this time, I instructed the parent to watch her daughter closely, because she might either be inclined to make drastic, hasty adjustments to her study area or even decide to drop out altogether. The daughter actually quit college and took a job after being advised by her parents not to make the decision. She later regretted the decision to drop out and returned to college to complete her degree.
